Van Gogh Alive in Manila 2019

Van Gogh Alive, the most visited multi-sensory exhibit, is now in Manila. The exhibit runs from October 26 to December 8, 2019 at One Bonifacio High Street.

With the use of the Sensory 4 technology, Grande Exhibitions has created a show that depicts Van Gogh‘s artistic journey through the display of his artwork in a multi-screen environment coupled with motion graphics and classical music.

Who is Van Gogh?

Van Gogh is a self-taught artist whose work was inspired by the scenery and the people around him.  As he traveled to different places and as his mental state declined,  his style and use of colors evolved too.

He has made over 2000 works of art using different mediums like oil paint, watercolor and pencil. However, he only managed to sell 1 painting, The Red Vineyard at Arles, during his lifetime.

Some of his famous works are The Starry Night (1889), Irises (1889) and his sunflower series.

What Can You Expect from Van Gogh Alive?

We were able to get weekday tickets to Van Gogh Alive for October 29 and here are some things I think you should know before you head out to see it.

  1.  Make the experience meaningful for you and your kids by doing your own research about Van Gogh and his artworks.
Reese had a small board book that had some of Van Gogh’s famous works and so she was so excited and happy to see the familiar paintings on display.
  1. If you have young kids, set their expectation that the lights are off and the music is loud in the exhibit area.
  1. Line starts to queue 30 minutes before showtime. If you want to be first in line, better to head over to ticket area early.
  1. When you enter the exhibit area, a live version of Van-Gogh’s painting, Bedroom in Arles, is at your left. Guests are given 30 seconds to take their pictures here so it’s better that you already know what pose you want to do before you queue here.
  1. The exhibit lobby displays Van Gogh’s famous artwork with some literature that provides a background of each piece. Make sure to spend some time to read the details to have a better appreciation of the show.
  1. Bring a light sweater, it is a bit chilly inside.
  1. Walk around or choose a spot to watch the show.  There are a few benches available or you may want to sit on the floor like what we did.
  1. If you choose to walk around, just be mindful that you might be blocking the view of some of the guests who came to watch the show.
  1. If you want to take a picture with fewer people inside, wait until the end of the 90 minute time slot.  The crowd gets thinner towards the last half of the time slot.
  1. Enjoy the show!
